In December 2023, a IR mirror furnace from the Japanese company Yonekura was installed in the INW.
The oven uses an infrared lamp to heat a sample (< 50 mg) at heating and cooling rates of up to 1000 K/min.
Different atmospheres of argon, nitrogen, air and vacuum can be generated. This allows substances to be heated above the melting point and observed in-situ through the microscope.
The maximum operating temperature is 1700 °C.
